About Michelle

I am a Queer (she/they) Registered Social Worker with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. My experience includes providing counselling support to individuals, couples, groups, and families. I have previously worked as a Registered Social Worker with non-profit community organizations including, Community Living, The Jean Tweed Centre, YWCA Toronto, Elizabeth Fry Toronto, and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Throughout my experience, I’ve had the privilege to witness people’s resiliency and unique capacity for healing. I remain in awe of the power of human connection and approach this work with the understanding that every person is the expert of their own experience. As a result, I intentionally position myself alongside and in collaboration with each of my clients to understand each person’s pacing, needs and goals.

Education

I completed a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) at the University of Waterloo and a Master of Social Work (MSW) at Toronto Metropolitan University, where I integrated studies of Anti-Oppression, marginalization and critical approaches into practice. My practice is guided by a critical lens that is Anti-Oppressive, intersectional and feminist, as I believe our individual experiences are directly connected to the larger social and structural context. This can offer space for us to foster compassion and understanding to your unique lived experience.

Approach to Therapy

I am passionate about facilitating a space that is empathetic, non-judgmental and compassionate. My approach to therapy is holistic, trauma-informed and client centred. This means I aim to understand how each client views their experience and I will frequently check in during each session to provide clarity and deeper understanding. I strive to support clients with cultivating awareness into the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, environment and current ways of coping, as well understand how early relationships or experiences may impact the present.

I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in the therapeutic process. I encourage you to reflect on what you might need in a therapeutic relationship to feel safe, heard and supported. I believe in creating a client-therapist relationship that fosters authenticity, compassion, safety and trust.
